The Life-Threatening Dangers of the Low-Fat Diet

Posted by Doctor Lucas on

For more than four decades there have been "experts" that told us to avoid healthy fats and load-up on carbs.  Avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, butter, animal fats - they were bad.   Processed breads, cereal, and pastas and margarine were good.

The results are in: we're experiencing epidemics of obesity, diabetes, gut disease,  autoimmune issues . . . caused in large part by overloading our bodies with sugary carbs and depriving them of crucial fats.  There are other major risks in low-fat diets that you may not know about such as:
Depression and Suicide

Nutritional deficiencies

Alzheimer's Disease

Hormonal imbalance

What are the best options to dangerous low-fat diets?

The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that offers many health benefits.  Over 20 studies show that this type of diet can help you lose weight and improve health.

Ketogenic diets have shown benefits against diabetes, cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease.

The ketogenic diet (often termed keto) is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins Paleo and low-carb diets.  A Paleo diet shares much the same foundation as does the Mediterranean Diet.  Think bacon, grass-fed butter, vegetables, eggs, wild caught fish, avocados, and more vegetables.

A ketogenic diet involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. The reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain (6, 7).

Ketogenic diets can cause massive reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. This, along with the increased ketones, has numerous health benefits.

Diabetes type II and its numerous side effects including joint pain, heart disease, leaky gut, has been successfully treated with ketogenic-based diets.

One of the foundation foods for Paleo and many Keto plans has been bone broth - very low in carbs and high in critical and essential amino acids that help fuel your organs as well as the healthiest fats (look for grass-fed) and critical components of joint health including collagen protein.  Broth high in gelatin (such as "Best of the Bone") is also considered an efficient detox.  A good way to start your journey to health.
