This wonderful spicy little herb has outperformed NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) in numerous tests.  And without the side effects.

Ginger root

NSAIDs are those pills we typically reach for when we have a an enduring ache or pain - be it a headache or an arthritic flare-up or a twisted ankle.  Some of the NSAIDs that are a part of many medicine cabinets and are prescribed or suggested by your medical practitioner are aspirin, ibuprofen (such as Nurofen), diclofenac (such as Voltaren), naproxen and more.  NSAIDs are the most widely used drugs.  And of course their purpose is to provide relief from the pain symptoms associated with injury.  The purpose is not to address the injury or any underlying causes for your inflammation - be it internal inflammation or joint inflammation.

Ginger is the magical little root that has been used in folk medicines for centuries.  You may know it for use for nausea related issues - such as motion sickness or morning sickness.  Asian cultures have used it to promote appetite and battle unflattering body door.

And for centuries it has been used as a pain relief.  And recent studies confirm that it has considerable pain-relief benefits.  In fact, as potent as most NSAIDs and without the nasty side effects such as:

  • liver damage,
  • bleeding ulcers,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • kidney damage

To name but a few of the many side effects.  Realistically, taking the rare nurofen or aspirin won't cause permanent organ damage if you're not allergic.  But, if there were a tasty herb that could provide such benefits and the side effects associated with that herb were increased appetite and smelling delicious then why not have a strong cup of ginger tea or sliced, fermented ginger or - the dish that combines two powerful anti-inflammatories that address root cause issues, bone broth and turmeric.

GINGER & BONE BROTH

Both ginger and bone broth have both shown to have considerable benefits in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and both are proven anti-inflammatories that address underlying causes such as diabetes, leaky gut, gastrointestinal issues and more.  Additionally the healthy essential fats in bone broth have shown to compound the benefits of many herbs and micronutrients including ginger.  Additionally ginger has shined in numerous studies showing benefits such as:

  • neuroprotective effects,
  • heart health (ginger slows the production of LDL and triglycerides in the liver and prevent the clotting of platelets in the blood vessels associated with atherosclerosis and blood clots)
  • cancer protection
  • and, of course, gastrointestinal issues.  (bone broth improves the benefits of ginger in this capacity.)

A 2015 review of nine studies and seven meta-analyses investigating ginger's effectiveness against nausea showed it can help reduce nausea and vomiting associated with postoperative nausea, chemotherapy, viral infection and morning sickness.  So perhaps you should consider some more ginger in your diet?

Note: Best of the Bone organic turmeric - organic ginger and organic black pepper improves the absorption of micronutrients in your diet (including the turmeric and ginger) thanks to the healthy fats and gelatin of the slow-cooked broth that has been cooked-down into a thick gel providing an powerful food rich in minerals, amino acids and 40% collagen protein.
