Power-up - Slim-Down Salad: A Surprising Powerhouse Meal

A Power-Up Salad - For slimming and for energy.
A leafy, colourful salad is an essential raw, low calorie, healthy and light meal. Replete with a wide array of nutrients and enzymes our bodies absorb and utilise. However, the average adult loses much of the nutrients consumed in the digestive process - but not how you think. Its estimated that 70-80% of adults have some level of leaky gut syndrome. Meaning because of "leaky gut" food is actually "leaking" into our body and creating inflammation - often resulting in chronic inflammation that can hasten autoimmune issues, weight gain, joint pain, thyroid health, irritable bowel, contribute to diabetes and much more.
Research shows us that bone broth helps increase the absorption of nutrients. Bone broth is also an essential pillar of many gut health diets such as GAPs (gut and psychology syndrome protocol) and other successful holistic approaches to treating gut health as well as autoimmune issues, diabetes, and more. The gelatin in bone broth delivers a bio-available collagen (gelatin is cooked collagen). Collagen, by the way, is a building block of our bones, our skin, and tissue. Grass- fed beef bones deliver high levels of type 1 and type 3 collagen. In short, collagen is essential for health. But to the point of nutrient loss and absorption, grass-fed beef bone broth such as Best of the Bone (highest in marrow and gelatin) delivers minerals and the healthy fats that have shown to improve the absorption of micronutrients. In other words, include some leafy greens in your bone broth and you'll, in effect, increase the benefits of those greens.
But there are other ways to use your bone broth to improve nutrient absorption and the flavour and texture of our meals (especially slow-cooked bone broth high in marrow - preferred by chefs). One such way, as we have here, is to use it to create a delicious salad dressing. The result is the Power-Up salad.
Ingredients:
Diced carrots, cabbage, coriander, chopped spring onion and spinach leaves - add avocado (and I like to include chopped boiled eggs and feta cheese) and top with linseed/flaxseed. Then mix with the Power-Up dressing - a powerhouse nutritional dressing that is so delicious:
Power-Up dressing ingredients:
- 1 tbsp Best of the Bone (regular or Organic Italian Herbs & Garlic Best of the Bone)
- 1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- Garlic Aioli Mayonnaise
- Some chilli flake or splash tabasco
- Cracked Pepper
- Caraway Seed
Blend and pour over your salad and viola' - a satisfying raw, healthy, energy-lifting low carb meal. Your gut will thank you!
